Why am I unable to change HTTP and HTTPS ports?

MacOS 26 currently has a restriction to change HTTP and HTTPS ports through the ADS tray icon. To solve this issue, it’s required to modify permissions of the server.json file. To do so:

  1. Locate the server.json file at /Users/Shared/ads
  2. Right click on the server.json file.
  3. Click on ‘Get Info’.
  4. Set ‘Read & Write’ privilege to the user.
  5. Click on the ADS icon at the upper right corner.
  6. Select ‘Change Port’.
  7. Change either the HTTP port, the HTTPS port, or both.
  8. Click on ‘Change’ button. ‘Port change successful.’ message comes up.

Notes:

  • It may be necessary to reboot the workstation in order to get the changes being applied.
  • It may require 666 permission setting, depending on policy.
